How do you tell if the egg in the fridge is fresh or is one that has been cooked?

You spin it. If it twirls like a top on a suitable hard surface then it's cooked. If it barely moves at all then it's fresh, but be careful. An egg straight from the fridge can be so cold that it behaves like a cooked one. Let it sit at room temperatue for 10 minutes or so before applying the test.
