Chicken With Onion Sauce
This is a cheat chicken dish which I found in a magazine somewhere. I love it because it’s simple,
cheap and works very well. Of course, you could always make your own onion sauce if you wanted to….
For four people, prepare the following:
1kg chicken wings
2tbs oil
40g butter
1 onion, chopped
400g can of crushed tomatoes
40g (or thereabouts) packet of French onion soup mix
1tbs soy sauce
3tsp cornstarch (cornflour)
250mls water
Preheat the oven to 190°C, 375°F
Brown the wings in an ovenproof dish in the oil and butter. Remove, set aside and add the onion. Cook until soft.
Stir in the tomatoes, soup mix, soy sauce and water. Heat this through and then return the chicken to the dish. Cover and bake in the oven for
45 minutes.
Remove the chicken to a warmed serving dish and stir the cornstarch mixed with a little water into the sauce. Heat this on the stove while
stirring. As it boils it will thicken.
Pour the sauce over the chicken and serve with baked or mashed potatoes and something green.
